President & CEO
Carl E. Smith is CEO and president of Call2Recycle, North America’s first and largest consumer battery stewardship program. In this capacity, he oversees the organization’s strategy, partnerships and management of its national promotion and education efforts, serving as a model for product stewardship. Working directly with its board of directors, Smith leads the overall direction of the company.
Smith has extensive experience in strategic marketing, brand positioning, product/business development and environmental leadership. He previously served as the CEO of GREENGUARD Environmental Institute, a non-profit organization that develops and promotes indoor air quality standards and programs. Before that, he was a senior marketing and general management executive with a Fortune 500 company and served in various capacities on Capitol Hill.
As Vice President of Market Development, Mike Bax is responsible for leading Call2Recycle’s geographic and market expansion for end-of-life management of large format batteries. In this role, Bax oversees market development opportunities that leverage Call2Recycle’s experience outside of consumer markets. He also provides strategic guidance on policy decisions and resource planning to support future expansion.
Bax has a wealth of experience in business development, corporate social responsibility, marketing, and strategic sales. He received his Bachelor’s degree from the University of Notre Dame and Masters’ degrees from Stanford University and the University of Chicago.
Finance & Administration
As the vice president of finance and administration, Greg Broe oversees the organization’s recycling operations, financial reporting, information technology systems and industry steward administrative functions. In this role, Broe ensures that the fiscal and fiduciary responsibilities of the organization are met, while managing long-term budgetary planning and cost management. He also provides strategic guidance to the Executive Team that enables Call2Recycle to continually operate more effectively and efficiently.
Broe spent 10 years in public accounting before moving to the private sector, first with the National 4H Council and then to Call2Recycle in 1997 as a financial executive. Broe is a graduate of the University of Maryland, a CPA and a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants.
Eric Frederickson serves as Managing Director of Operations for Call2Recycle where he is responsible for the development and enhancement of the organization’s operations to optimize performance and efficiencies while upholding the organization’s commitment to safety standards and compliance obligations. In partnership with the Executive Management Team, Frederickson drives continuous improvement efforts to help enhance Call2Recycle’s program throughout the U.S. and Canada.
With more than 18 years’ experience in engineering and operations management at leading transportation solutions providers, Frederickson is known for his expertise in logistics, safety and corporate compliance. He received his Bachelor of Science degree at Georgia Institute of Technology.
Executive Vice President,
A Call2Recycle employee since 2005, Linda Gabor brings a strong background in strategic planning, interactive marketing, media and public relations to Call2Recycle. As Executive Vice President of External Relations, she helps advance the organization’s mission by supporting overall collection growth strategies and enhancing relationships with key stakeholders.?
Gabor oversees core teams, including account management, customer service and marketing communications, that direct the program’s national brand and impact. These efforts actively support the company’s mission of diverting batteries from landfills and spreading consumer awareness on safe battery handling and management.
